Default Engine Oil Reservoir

Our '83 Classic has a oil reservoir on the passenger side of the engine. I have filled it with the same oil I'm running with, straight 40 weight.

We've driven a couple thousand miles on this trip so far and I'd like to top up with a couple of quarts of oil.

Once the coach has warmed up and the air pressure is up, can I add the oil directly as the coach is running or should the coach be shut off before adding?

Hi Glenn, it sounds like the trip is going well!! I would shut the engine down while topping up, if it is running you wont be able to read the dipstick to get the proper level.

Good point, Keith, thanks.

We're in Sante Fe for a few days, having the time of our lives. Visited Taos, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in CO, Yellowstone, and many other beautiful places.

Agreed, the engine should not be running when you add the oil. Only way to get an accurate oil level reading on the dip stick.
