Default Generator charging batteries

How do I know if the generator charge the batteries?

Test The Volts at the batteries using a multimeter with the generator off and with it running. While unplugged from shore power. Should be higher with generator running.

Phil, that is a very reasonably priced tool for the job. I have several tools by Extech and find them pretty dependable. I like Fluke, but have found this to be my alternative. Great price!

I suppose newells are similar to a Prevost system in which case your generator supplies 120V-ac power to the entire RV when dry camped and using it. If that is the generator that you mean, then the answer is, yes it will charge them. What it does is to replace the shore power and to supply 12V-dc power through your inverter. Just how well and how quickly depends upon the inverter/charger that you have in your newell.
