Default 8-track player

Hi folks, just wondering if anyone still uses 8-tracks in their classics? Mine had one but was taken out. The coach still has the cabinet that holds the tapes, I can get a whole box full of tapes for a song, mostly old country and western like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, etc the good old boys and some of my favorites. There is a couple of new old players on ebay pretty cheap and was thinking it would be cool to have in my 77.
Is there anyone out there still using one? What are some of your favorite old singers? Mine is a toss up between Waylon and Willie, Cash is also on the top of my list.

My 77 coach had its 8-track removed as well. I thought about putting one back in and playing it a vintage camper gatherings. I just thought it would be so cool having people visiting the coach and getting those old recordings off the shelf.... modern music ain't got the same soul, I live that old time rock and roll... and Waylon.... and Johnny ... and Willie. And then maybe play the early disco movies on the VCR for the visiting folks. But then I went and sold the coach and the 93 Newell I have now is real nice, but it truly doesn't have the same old soul.

Jon, if I knew then what I know now, I would have bought your 77, after all the work I put into this one I could have bought 2 or 3 of your 77's!! I should have it the way I want it this summer but holy crap what a money pit and time consumer!! We do love it though and it sure does have a lot of soul, it really is a joy to drive.

I may be a little nostalgic about the music, but not the device. I have 204.8 GB of MP3s and my wife has a rather large collection of audible books. The current radio in my Newell does things you'll never get out of an 8 track...I can put a thumb drive in that will give me enough music to drive cross country and back without playing the same song twice. My wife's iPad Touch connects with it, my smart phone connects and gives me hands free phone calls. All this and it doesn't take up anymore space, actually less. Just my 2 cents.

That sounds like a sweet setup Jon, I currently have a cd deck with an ipod jack to plug whatever into, not sure about blue tooth but I think it does, I do plan on having all the latest electronics also, just thought it would be neat to also have a working 8-track with tapes in there as well. The tape cabinet is real nice and would hate to get rid of it. I will have to get up to speed on all the new electronics, I know I am behind the times a bit and old school about a lot but do appreciate old stuff that works well with a combination of old an new where it counts. Thanks for the input, much appreciated!!

One of the endearing things about old tech is just as Jon said (yea the other Jon, or maybe I'm the other Jon, I can't remember) you will hear additional things with new tech. Sometimes not hearing something better reminds me of the earlier days, I find the pops and ticks of records playing quite soothing and nostalgic. The older I get the less techy I yearn.

I'm going to go looking for the latest 8-track releases when I visit the A&P store tomorrow. And I'm gonna check my vacuum tubes, too...

Also going to upgrade my cd player to one with bluetooth.
