Default Why are eating areas on newell coaches on side behind driver

Why are so many eating areas on newell coaches on side behind driver. Is there a reason for it. What do others prefer?? I was hoping to locate a newell with an eating area on the street side behind the passenger.

Luke

They're out there. If you want a real project you can buy the 91 repo on eBay and get your street side dining area.

After reading that thread it make more sense to purchase a newell that has been better cared for. I don't want to spend years making a coach road worthy.

Hello Luke,

You just have to look around to find Newell's with dinettes on the passenger side. It reminds me when I used to never see any Newell's for sale that had tubs now I've been seeing them all over in the last couple months.

Luke; it seems to me that more of the earlier coaches had the dining area on the passenger side. If this is true, and I'm not sure it is, there may be a couple reasons. In my 35 foot 77 coach that is set up that way it accomplishes a couple things. First, it allows the kitchen to be longer by overlapping the entry steps. When you look into my coach you see the counter with the icemaker under it opposite the steps. Second, with exception of one furnace and the shower it keeps all the utilities piping on one side of the coach. As the newer coaches got longer there was more freedom to locate things.

My 77 is set up the same as yours Jon, Makes sense with the utilities on one side, was it possibly customer preference when it was built as to how the kitchen and dinette was layed out? I wonder how many options they had back in the day.

Luke, there's a 94 listed in the classifieds with the dining on the passenger side. 1994 Newell 45' - 62900 (Summerdale, AL)

Our coach, a 1982, has the dinning on the passenger side, and the kitchen on the driver's side.

My '78 Newell had the booth on the drivers side, my '76 had two dining setups with built in swivel chairs, one on the drivers side as you entered the coach and the other on the passenger side right behind the co-pilot chair. My '86 had a dining on the drivers side behind the entry door. The '76 and '78 had the kitchens on the passenger side, but the '76 had the fridge on the drivers side. My uncle has an '89 Newell with his booth on the drivers side.
