Grand Lake Colorado

We are considering a 2012 summer position at Grand Lake in Colorado and was wondering if anyone has ever driven the roads around there. I see the elevation is 8300 ft. I am towing a 25 ft car hauler. Looking for feed back on the roads and how the newell handles the high elevations.

Hi Brad,
I have been going to CO for the last 10 years. I had my 89 and 96 both there over this period. The road are fine and problaly the worst climb you have is coming out of Denver or Grand Junction on I-70 at the tunnel and Vail pass. I have rode my Goldwing on about every road in CO and it is a great area. What route will you be going to get there? If I can help let me know.

Good to hear from you Ron. Google has 2 ways from Yuma where we winter. One way is over and up through Flagstaff which I am not to crazy about the other about 30 miles more going through Las Vegas and Fish Lake national forest. Either way takes us through Grand Junction. Is it anything like the climb from Phoenix to Flagstaff?

I have been on all of the routes from Yuma. Out of Flagstaff up through Tuba City, Moab and then to I-70 not bad and a pretty drive. I did that in early Jan with 45' coach, 5' ramp ext with ATV, full size pick-up with 2 motorcycle, and had no trouble other than -18 deg and snow and ice. I use to stay in Moab alot and do off road. After you hit !-70 pretty interstate with a climb for Vail Pass. Hwy 9 out of Silverthorne to Kremmling, Granby, and Grand Lake. I don't think you would have any trouble with your rig on these route. Take your time because there are plenty to see the entire 1K miles. If you need anything info let me know.
