Default Slide outs on coach

Good Day! I'm learning now about slide outs in coaches. How many slides are appropriate? When you want slide out did you choose a coach based on how many slides? Does price change on Newell coach if it has slide outs? We like many coaches that have slides but just learning about technical things to look for when looking at a coach with slide outs. Thank you.

We are looking at coaches with a slide and without but for us its really a matter of price.

Newell first offered slide-outs in their 1997 models. Most 1997 were no slides or 1 slide although at least one 2 slide was built in 1997. In 1998, 1999 and 2000, most were 2 slides. At least one 3 slide was built in 2000. 2001 saw the first Newell 4 slide-out coach at the end of the model year. 2002 and 2003 were 2, 3 or 4 slide outs. Since 2004, most, but not all, Newells have had 4 slides.

Generally 1 slide out was in the salon on the drivers side, 2 slides added a bedroom slide (usually on the drivers side). Three slides started added a curb side slide. There are of course exceptions as I have seen 1 slide out Newells with the only slide being in the bedroom. Slides add complexity and add cost. In recent years, the cost for each additional slide is about $100,000 so 4 slides adds $325,000 - $400,000 depending on the slide length and depth. There is limited room to move around the coach in a 4 slide model with all slides in.

2 slides would be ideal for most people and 4 slides, well that's just showing off

A coach with slides 1,2,3 or 4 would be kickbutt. Price is always a factor for me.

Thank you. My other concern with slide out is the bay door compartment access and how the door open?

Newell has used a number of different configurations for bay doors under slides. They have used a standard 'hinge at the top' bay door to opens up about 95 degrees, a 'hinge on the side' bay door that opens out, and a 'folding hinge at the top' where there is an additional horizontal hinge across the center of the bay door to keep the bay door from extending past the slide to increase access.
