Default How severe can rust issues be on a Newell Coach?

After looking a couple of Newells and a couple of them appear to have rust and corrosion issues. After driving a late eighties with the cracked frame, I am now inspecting every single Newell for the possibility of frame cracks, rust and corrosion. Have many of you owners done these kind of inspections on your Newells prior to purchase or did you possibly overlook this area? Both sellers acted as if there were no concerns and at the same time didn't know of anything being an issue.

I have heard of certain buses having rust issues like the Eagle in rear areas and now I'm seeing something similar with certain Newells. Why is this, and what could be the cause of concern?

Chip, let me start by saying that anything can be fixed for a price. You are very fortunate that you are on the correct end of the bargaining table on this one. Rust is like cancer, to get rid of it you have to completely remove all the rust. If that compromises a structural component it will have to be replaced. If you're not skilled/equipped to fix it yourself, I would find a reputable shop that can do the work and get an estimate.

When I purchased mine, I was aware of all the rust damage and that was negotiated into the price.

I flew to California to purchase (but didn't) an 04. It had rust and corrosion problems. All the outside compartments had problems. You could see corrosion bubbling under the paint on the body everywhere there was a seam. I looked at an 03 that had the bubbling paint problem but no rust anywhere else. So far I've looked at two 04s and an 03 that are not as nice as my 91.

Jimmy if you can ever get pictures like Joe mentioned they are always invited to post on here or to send to us by email or snail male and we will post them. Having owned an autobody some years ago I have a bit of experience with body panels and such and would love to examine some things on different coaches that will maybe help out in future repairs or inspections of them.

Sorry, you had to waste time and travel to be disappointed with the different coaches. Nice to find someone in the area to preview any prospective coaches. Are you now back in the hunt? Is the reason for the change do to you mainly wanting to go with slide coach?

Yes, the only reason we are looking is to add slides since our family has grown. I only want to buy ONE more time thou....and that is why I'm looking so hard for a quad slide. I figure if you have a quad slide, anything else you might ever want, you can just add. I wish I had taken pictures but I did not think about it. I was just disappointed and trying to get back home. I had the money with me and had planned to drive it back. We hauled that money around out west for several days in a rental car!! What a trip!

That's too bad. I agree if you get a quad slide then anything it doesn't have you can add. I hope you find the coach you're looking for.
