1276 4/13/2004 8:24:52 AM 4/13/2004 Dennis Wolfe dennis.wolfe@direcway.com Mixing Battery Types I would like to change the house batteries on our '87 coach from flooded wet cell to AGM type. I know I have to upgrade the charger to something that knows about AGM batteries and their voltage requirements. However, I'm concerned about what happens when the batteries are 'merged' with the chassis batteries (which will remain flooded wet cell) while driving.

Has anyone done this and if so, how did you insure the house batteries didn't get overcharged while driving? What about simply taking the 'merge' solenoid out of the picture by unwiring it so the batteries couldn't merge? Lastly, is there something I need to change on the generator to make it aware of the AGM batteries?

1283 4/22/2004 7:18:39 PM 4/26/2004 Reagan Sirmons overcup@houston.rr.com New Tires Jack, I do not know the size and weight of your vehicle but I just followed the tech advice of John Clark and put the Bridgestone R293 (24,5's) steering tires all around. I had two Bridgestone steering tires on the front that were 4 years old and I put them on my tag. I agree with John that these steering tires ride much better. I am running 110 pounds of pressure all around which I believe to be sufficient. I drive a max of 68 / 70 mph. I put the 16 ply tires (24.5's) all around because of the weight of my '87.

My question(s): How many miles are these engines good for? How long should it be before an overhaul job, and about how much does an overhaul cost for this engine? Any information will be appreciated.

Q
1291 5/5/2004 11:44:35 AM 5/28/2004 David Carroll Keywester@aol.com 81 newell Based on the fact that my company has run a lot of the Detroit engines over the last 57 years I feel pretty confident that you should get 500,000 miles out of the engine and then you can have it "in-framed" for about $4000 and you should be good for another 500,000. This does not include air compressors, alternators, water pumps, fuel pumps, injectors, etc. They are like your wife, they can leave you anytime.

1292 5/5/2004 6:17:08 PM 5/28/2004 Dick Quirk quirkrjiii@cs.com '89 Owner's Manual We are missing our Newell Owner's Manual for the '89 Newell we purchased from the factory last October. Somehow it seems we misplaced it on the trip home from the factory. We would appreciate copies of any part of an owner's manual from a Newell of the same period. We would certainly be willing to reimburse you for your trouble. Our coach is a 40ft Classic style with an 8V92T and tandem axle.
Thank you,

1297 5/16/2004 6:55:06 PM 5/28/2004 Kelly Scott kscott266@hotmail.com 1980 Newell Trim The rubber trim or molding that runs along the side of the coach (black in color) seems to be shrinking. Leaving gaps in the front and the back.

Would anyone know where one can find this molding, or trim?

I have looked at several RV places and the trim they have on hand is always to wide, or the wrong design.

Thanks

Not sure of your question, but our coach has a Rartian Marine hot water heater. Elect. and uses the engine heat when running down the road to heat the water. You use the word continuos hot water? The unit is only a 12 gal unit, but showers 2 people fine. Hope this was of help.
