Default Anyone replaced main line on early 70's model?

All,

We had our 1973 plumbing inspected and wanted a new head installed. The honest professional contracted found that over the years, the main copper line from the fresh water tank through to all sinks/shower/head have been spot-fixed so many times that it's been suggested that we have the main line replaced before adding a new head. I.e. if they replace one area of the line, another area may become weaker and spring leaks. I would like to just have the lines replaced so that we do not have any surprises down the road and save my beautiful new flooring.

Anyone out there had similiar work? Any suggestions/friendly warnings are welcome.

I would seriously consider the new flexible vinyl (I think it's called PEX, aquapex) No soldering or heat needed and I think it resists freeze damage. Products like this are readily available from Home Depot etc.
