460 11/20/2001 6:50:26 PM 11/21/2001 Gene Morace genemorace@hotmail.com Winter mountain driving... Tuga,
No driving tips as far as driving your coach other than go slow. I've never driven my coach in the winter either, but my wife and I are planning to be in Breckenridge for a couple of weeks as well on or about the 10th or 11th of Feburary.
As for the roads in Colorado, they are usually kept in very good condition as far as keeping them clear of snow. I-70 from Denver is usually in good shape unless there is a major storm. The back roads coming out of Colorado Springs could be a little more tricky. I have invested in a set of chains just in case; you might consider the same. I would assume from your address that you are from Louisiana; We will be coming from LA (Lower Alabama). See you in Feburary.

461 11/20/2001 6:58:43 PM 11/21/2001 Gene Morace genemorace@hotmail.com towable vehicles I am towing a Jeep Wrangler. As far as I know, any of the Jeep products (4x4) tow easily with nothing to do but add a tow bar and tail light wiring. The Wrangler is light and hardly noticable, but a little short on room especially for more than 2 people. I am considering the new Jeep Liberty. Larger than the Wrangler and smaller than the Grand Cherokee.

465 12/1/2001 11:43:06 AM 12/1/2001 Harry Wuner wharvonw@juno.com Datron Satellite System I have a Datron DBS-3000 mobile satellite system I purchased about three years ago.The system will work perfect one time and the next time will stop somewhere between up and stow.I then have to go on the roof and pull it down.I have asked around at the FMCA shows but still haven,t found a fix.Do other people out there have trouble with there Datron? or is mine the odd one.A letter to the factory produced no results. The wiring has been checked out. When in a stuck position some times turning off the power a short time will make it work. any Ideas?

the 12 volt connection MUST provide a load capability of 7 amps continually.

470 12/10/2001 7:50:43 PM 12/12/2001 Linda Schneider ltschneider@earthlink.net Icemaker replacement bucket Our 1979 Newell came equiped with an Instamatic Icemaker from La Salle Deitch Company of Elkhark, Indiana. The icemaker works quite well but our ice bucket is falling apart. The company seems to no longer exist and I am wondering if you have any suggestions for finding a new Ice Bucket - part number 524 on the original users manual?

Thanks for any suggestions

472 12/12/2001 7:18:25 AM 12/12/2001 Tech Talk Staff techtalk@newellcoach.com Icemaker replacement bucket As we recall, the Instamatic icemaker line was acquired by U-Line some 20 years ago. The U-Line ice makers we used through the 80s and into the early 90s appear to be identical to the Instamatic units.

Some parts for older model Instamatic icemakers are still available from U-Line. We suggest you call U-Line customer service at 414-354-0300. It would be helpful if you had the model number of the ice maker, as well as the dimensions of the ice bucket. The part number for the bucket you referenced is obsolete.

473 12/14/2001 4:42:44 PM 12/15/2001 Jeff BubbaJePH@aol.com roof paint On the bus boards they talk about KoolSeal paint. I saw a MCI with the paint on it's roof & it really was cooler under the painted surface. I was told it is very much water repellent. Can find the stuff at Home Depot & Lowe's. Hope this helps.

Q
477 12/26/2001 2:51:09 PM 12/26/2001 K.H. 'Ki' Punilei khpaladin@aol.com Merge Switch and Solenoid I found that our 1981 Newell has only one merge switch which is mounted in the front 'House' battery compartment. As TechTalk noted above one side of the merge switch is tied to the 'engine' batteries and the other side is tied to the 'house' batteries. The dash 'Merge" switch is wire the same way with 'house' on one side and 'engine' on the other, with power to the solenoid from the middle pole.

As TechTalk noted above the batteries can be merged by the solenoid powered by either bank of batteries. When on shore power I use the dash switch in 'house' position to charge batteries through the ProSine 2500 inverter/charger. When driving down the road I use the dash switch in 'engine' position to charge batteries through the alternator. When the coach is in storage with no power supply, the dash switch is in the 'OFF' position. I also put both 'house' and 'engine' battery master disconnects in the 'OFF' position to alliviate draining either battery bank.

Best Regards,

Ki and the 'Redhead'

479 1/1/2002 4:09:10 AM 1/1/2002 pat mchale patmchale1@yahoo.com Winter mountain driving... Most roads in Colorado are kept in decent shape in the winter. They may be snow packed and icy though. We have had our 34'to Breck around Christmas and didn't have any problems with the ice.The # for road conditions is; 303-639-1111. I would defenitely disconnect the tow vehicle. The extra weight in back could make for some interesting situations in the mountains. The best advise for driving on snow and ice is slow is better. Forget about brakes and use the engine brake because it is usually not as abrupt.
