Default Air fittings

I'm going on an air leak hunt on Sat. Are there specific type or types of air fittings that work better than others? Any chance of standard sizes?

Most of your air lines should be 1/4" plastic tubing. DOT fittings and tubing should be used on any brake lines.
There are plastic and metal push-on fittings, but I prefer a metal ferrule type fitting. Just make sure to use the metal insert that goes into the tubing.
Napa should have them, also try Grainger or McMaster Carr or Ryder Fleet Products.

John,
I have an ultrasonic leak detector that you are more than welcome to borrow. Works better than soapy water.

If I'm ever to do an airline upgrade, I prefer to use the colored airline material like red, blue, yellow and black. Utilizing a Bendix air chart. Like Forest stated, don't forget those little inserts in the end of the hose. Been there done that and it will save you some pain in the rear head scratching.

You may also check out any semi trailer manufacturer/suppliers for product sourcing. Most will sell to you at a much more reasonable price. Otherwise look-up a near by Bendix supplier and they should have everything you need.

And when you buy your fittings get a couple of caps and plugs like these: McMaster-Carr
so you can plug off an air line on the side of the road. Glad I had one when my wife's air seat blew a line. 5 minutes later I was on the road again. Also when the air lift for the bed started leaking I was able to plug it off until I could get a new ram.

John, you will want to go to Andy's Supply here in Boise. Boise: Alternative Hose Inc. I've bought from them for years, they are very knowledgeable and have the best prices by far. I had a return fuel line on my GMC pickup that got a hole in it and the dealer didn't have their $60 replacement it in stock. I took the bad one to Andy's Supply and they made me up a new one for $10.
