How often should I change my windshield wipers?

I always change them myself and just pick a set up when one starts acting up. I had never thought about using protective covers for my wipers, even though I have seen a few rvers with them in parks. I was thinking they were only used while sitting or storing the motorhome. What is the average cost of those wiper covers?
