I have a 1971 Newell that has a safe welded to the chassis. The safe is made by Gary Safe Company. I found the code on the back of one of the drawers in the coach. I can set the combination but I cannot get the safe cylinder to pull out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think we have one similar to yours, and it is tricky to open. My wife is the expert. I'll check to see if ours is the same make. If it is, I'll have Elaine do a write up on opening it. I think the trick is just before you turn to the last number you have to push in on the dial...it will depress, and then turn to the last number, and then you pull up, but let me confirm that ours is the same make first.

Thanks. This looks like the old style of floor safe that would normally be concreted into the floor of a store or so. It is a cylinder in shape. Mine is welded in sideways on the rear of the frame in front of the bumber. It is hard to get to. Any information would help. Who knows. it may be empty and it may not.

mine was a round key and i was hopeful it was full of gold or silver bars when i had a locksmith come open it. 100 dollars later i had 4 keys and a empty safe. the locksmith said he bought a safe at an auction that was locked with no combination. he put an autodialer on it and after a couple of weeks he had an open safe with valuable contents. luck of the draw.

i hope you figure out how to get it open.

I am hoping that it is not just dead weight riding along for the trips. If it is empty that will be ok. It is kinda fun just wondering what could be in there. It is also a challenge trying to make that crazy combination work. LOL!

Stopped by the coach this afternoon....my safe is a STAR....an actual star is where the "A" is. I was right.....there are 5 numbers....the 4th being zero.....when you hit zero you press down, then turn to the last number and then pull up. Since yours is not a STAR, then I don't know what to say....sorry!
