I was told by someone that Newell was the first coach maker to add a slide, is this true? When did they add a slide to the first Newell? Anyone know?

Thanks,
Clint

Clint,

Newmar was the first motorhome manufacturer to install slide outs in 1990. Newell installed a single slide in 1997, dual slides in 1998, triple slides in 2001, and quad slides in 2002. Newell started using HWH glide out rooms in 1997 and then starting with coach #645 began using the Valid Engineering glide out rooms. The next 15 coaches had HWH glide outs and then the remaining production had Valid glide outs up to the present. The HWH slides are hydraulic and the Valid slides are electric. The advantage of the Valid vs the HWH is the former takes less energy to slide out because it has ball bearing tracts and it is operated by a 12v motor. The HWH slide out is hydraulic and if a hose breaks or leaks; it makes a mess. Hope this answers your question.
