I must say, $4 a gallon is something I had hoped would not happen, but it has hit that and beyond! Prices in Okc are about $4.05 a gallon! This is really increasing the price of travel, so Ive been looking into ways to save on trips. First off, I'm going to slow down... I generally run 75 pulling the H2 and average about 5.8. I'm going to slow down to 65 and see how much my fuel economy improves. I'm going to Dallas this weekend, and so we will see. I will be going back down there in 2 weeks, so I decided to pay to keep the coach in indoor storage, and drive the Hummer back and forth. I figured this will save about $100. With $4 a gallon diesel fuel, ever dollar counts!
Any other fuel saving tips?

It would be interesting to make note of RPM and mileage on each of the DD/Cummings/trannies/ configurations ie. 60, 6v92 and 8v92 etc. and mileage. A lot of other considerations as far a Coach Length, well you get my intent. I'm sure as our "pecans" get crushed by the oil companies we can come up with some fuel cost savings regarding mpg/rpm and miles covered. Not that I am a member/owner of the Newell club yet but I think Tom has raised a credible subject that deserves input as I am sure it will be well received and a benefit to all.

In 2008, when diesel was even higher than it is now....close to $5/gallon, each tank (180 gallons) cost me close to $900....I think Tom took a longer trip that summer, too, so he knows what I'm talking about, we took a 2000 mile trip. Can't really worry about cost.....we had our home with us, and our bed with us, and the scenery and experiences were amazing....well worth what it cost.

I once met a man at a truck stop, and was asking me about my rig. He then was telling me about his, and instead of recording miles per gallon, he measured smiles per gallon. So now, I try to measure that way and I can justify every penny!

I agree with "count the smiles"! But to give you my actual input, since I have driven my coach over 200,000 miles, 90% of which is pulling a 13 ton trailer, my fuel economy, at 63mph has been a little over 6mpg, which I feel is adequate. I love my Series 60. Incidentally, I only have the 4 spd Allison, so I would guess the Series 60 with a 6 speed would even be higher. Absolutely no cost is too high to have my home with me while on the road!
