2-Stroke engine oil 8V92

Hello everyone,
I am in the quad cities area heading to Cedar Rapids tomorrow and I am in search of some Delo 100 which is a straight 40 weight or the 50 weight would also be fine, or Rotella T40 or the equivalent. Anyone have any connections that you can share with me. I have contacted Truck Country in Davenport and they had never heard of either of those weights. I also contacted Interstate Power Services in Davenport and they also thought I had 3 heads. The oil gun in my engine bay has ceased to function(again) so I am unable to access the oil in the reserve tank so I need put oil in the old fashion, but highly reliable way! And I need the oil to do it. It is bloody hot here! Jennifer

probably missed you in the quad cities. If still there head to a marina. They will have it. Also any Shell distributor should have it.

Thanks for all your ideas. After spending 3 or 4 hours on the phone calling every lead and idea I was given, I was able to find 2, 3 gallon cases in Des Moines at Ottsen Oil. We are heading there today then on up through South Dakota and home to Montana. Delo 100 is hard to find. Stay out of the hot sun!! Jennifer

I had my oil changed at Speedco after purchasing my Newell on the ride home. I think I made a bad choice with my 8V92 by selecting Rotella 10-40 when asked what I wanted! After reading the forum I understand that I should run Delo 100 straight weight instead! The new oil is 800 miles old, question is should I get it out ASAP or is it ok to run another few 1000 miles? The viscosity improvers found in multi-weight oils tend to break down faster in the DD 2 cycle engines. I would not run it over 2000 miles before changing. Robert, if you could insert the pertinant info about your coach into your signature line it will help us help you with more accuracy.

Definitely change that multi-grade oil back to single weight 40. Rotella Heavy Duty 40 weight, or Chevron Delo 100 40 weight. Both are good.

Check you Engine Manuals I am sure that you will find that they did not know what they were doing. I would actually ask for a refund!
Yes the 2 Stroke Diesel Engines require a different Motor Oil, try a search at this forum as well.

Seeing as we are talking about oil, I changed my oil and it looks like I may have over filled it from 2 qts to maybe as much as 1 gallon. Will this bother anything or should I pull some out?

Hey Brad:

I did the same thing and asked the same question. I was told that the risk is that you will blow the excess oil out all over the engine and make quite a mess. My wife and I got one of those pumps that you can insert into the dipstick tube and we pumped out a gallon. I hated doing that, but in the end, no oil mess. Hopefully some experts will chime in here. It can do more damage than just make a mess from what I was told way back when. If overfilled it could also make a huge mess and for that reason alone I would remove some.
I found that if I run my V-6 (6V-92) a couple of quarts low I have a much cleaner engine compartment, as a side note most yacht owners do the same thing because these older Detroit Diesels would spit out that much.

I have used that type of Oil Pump that goes down the Dipstick Tube before and they are a real Pain in the A**! They are sold at Boating Stores because you have to pump out the oil on those engines. You have to heat the oil to get it thin enough to go through that small tube and then it is still oily and then you need to figure out what to do with it later since you guys are Full Timers.

I do have one of those hand pumps just need to get a smaller piece of tubing. Thanks David. Forest The valve sure would make life easier, will have to put that on a to do list.
