Tyron’s Safety Bands Offer Blowout Security
Tested on British Battlefields, Supplier's Product Mitigates Disastrous Tire Failure

Despite numerous attempts by tire companies, the media and other venues to educate con-
sumers on the dangers of under inflation, many still treat their RV tires like passenger car
tires – adding air only when “it looks low.” This alone is a bad habit-but when you couple
it with ignorance or outright apathy about proper loading, the result can be a tire blowout.

That’s bad news on any vehicle, but in an RV, the results can be disastrous.

So what can be done to protect consumers, to help assure them that every trip they take
with their families will be a safe one? Tyron Automotive Group (TAG) USA thinks they have
the answer. Its Tyron steel safety band wraps the circumference of the wheel, filling the
drop center or “well” that exists on every wheel.

Keep in mind that although this well makes mounting a deflated wheel possible, it also
makes it possible for a deflated tire to leave the rim after a blow out or other sudden tire
failure.

“When air no longer holds the tire in place, it seeks the lowest part in the wheel,” explains
Rick Cole, Tyron’s CEO. “The tire can then come off the rim in the opposite direction in which
it was installed, causing the rim to contact the road surface. When this happens, the driver
has no control over the vehicle.”

By installing the Tyron safety band in the drop center of the wheel after the tire has been
mounted, the tire can no longer leave the rim when it goes flat – leaving the driver valu-
able time in which to get the vehicle under control and to a safe stop.

It’s more than just a theory. Tyron has proven its effectiveness ever since it was established
nearly 30 years ago in England by order of the British military. “Soldiers that were stationed
in Northern Ireland where subject to sniper fire,” Cole explains. “The common target was the
tires, which would leave the vehicles stranded. They needed to come up with a way to keep
a tire functional even when it was flat.” Today, says Cole, Tyron is now standard equipment
on every Land Rover used by the British military, as well as every police car in England by
order of the British Home office.

It wasn’t until 2001 that TAG USA was established, and, following in the path of its U.K.
mother ship, law enforcement agencies were among the first target markets. “Now police
departments coast-to-coast use our products,” says Cole.

Lately, Tyron has made key inroads into the RV sector. So far, Newell Coach has made it
standard equipment across its line, according to Cole. “The company recognized
the benefits of the product right away.”

Tyron bands are typically only installed on the steer wheels of a Class A or C motorhome,
because the rear is protected by duals. It also is installed on all four wheels of a truck, van,
SUV or trailer.

Isn't that amazing? The product has been out for 30 yrs and finally comes to the US and Newell is keen enough to pick up on it. WOW!

I wonder what the cost of something like that is and can it be installed on an older coach?

Way to go Newell Coach!
