Thanks Richard and Rhonda,

I am taking my maiden voyage this coming week and driving from Phoenix to Pittsburgh. What is the most fuel efficient speed (60 series DD) to travel since fuel is now over $4.00?

I am glad to see all of you fellow car guys and Gals. It looks like we all have the same disease. Anything with a motor and we are smitten.

Ken: I pull a 12 ton trailer most of the time but will still get 6+ mpg at a cruising speed of 60-65 mph. I'll be doing just the opposite in 3 weeks, heading from Sebring to Phoenix. They had a huge cycle competition here 2 weeks ago that you would have enjoyed. Have a nice, safe trip to Pittsburgh.

I pull a 2000lb MINI and get 7 to 8 miles per gallon and got the same mileage pulling a Hummer. I use cruise control and turn off the engine brake while highway cruising.

I think somewhere between 62 and 65 is the sweet spot on mileage. You want to rund fast enough to carry the rollers without downshifting.

Definitely better mileage with the cruise control on. I don't know about other Newells, but I highly suspect that my DDEC is programmed like some of the fleet DDEC were programmed, in other words it has a higher power setting when using the cruise. The fleet owners do that to encourage the drivers to use the cruise. I swear mine pulls stronger in cruise.

And amen on the bike affliction.

I'm in Huntington WV, just off I 64 if you get close on your trip.

How fast do you run when you tow a Hummer? I only get about 5.7 but I run on avg. about 78.
