110 compressor part leaking air Spartan Scientific

Hi All,

Noticed a air sound coming from an opening on a small part which is a 1" cube with spartan scientific 3825-od-a20g
1.6mm/160psi 2-2no
120 vac/5 watt
Viton 39070081

It is at the end of the air line coming from the compressor in the passenger side front bay and has two wires fromit and a round stem. the air is coming from a hole in what looks like a cog on the side, but doesn't turn. When the compressor shuts off there is a spirt of air that comes out and then it sounds like a small leaking or air exhaust.

IS THIS NORMAL or does it need replacement ? The compressor runs like it always has and no more often. I just have never noticed this noise before because it is so little and only heard it when fully cleaning the compartment with my head inside..

i rebuilt my manifold in there and it is considerably more complex and with more to it than the picture russ has. but, when the compressor shuts off from getting up to the correct air pressure, the air solenoid at the bottom of the plastic bowl (dryer) will open and it causes air to purge the water in the bowl out to a reservoir tank. at the same time another solenoid isolates the tank. the whole thing also becomes the air purge for head of the compressor so it can start easily the next time.

I understand that the solenoid remains open and that there should be some air coming fromit when the compressor is of. how often should the compressor go on when not using any air powered equipment and assuming no leaks ?

My experience is if you can get your system to "no leaks" and are using nothing, it will cycle twice a day or about every 12 hours.

My compressor goess on for less than 60 seconds every 33 minutes or so.. Is that normal ? I also have NO water seprator at all in this assembly. I do drain the tank every couple of weeks and even in humid Florida weather get very little water draining. no more than a 1/2 cup this past 3 month trip.... The seperator was removed in a repair before my purchase and for over a year and a half of use there seems to be no issues and the compressor is the original. Newell has worked in that bay and I asked for all the air dryers to be replaced last visit and nothing was said to me... Does this all sound right to you guys ??????

ok, you are confusing me. can you take a few pictures of the setup and post them.? the solenoid that blows off at the shutdown should be at the bottom of the water separator. but you say you dont have one. btw, with my air door i find that it takes about 3-4 psi everytime we do a complete door cycle of open and close. that is only a handful of times before the compressor comes on.

BTW nothing seems to not be working normally and i tried the door cycling and toilets and still seem normal by your remarks and my history with the coach, just never heard the hissing and my wife thinks the compressor is cycling more, but i don't.2481

It depends. If you are not using the coach, Newell's standard for normal is if it cycles every hour or more. With some leak hunting you can get it much better. If you are using the coach 33 minutes may be perfectly normal depending on what air items you are using. Nothing you have described makes me think that you need to replace your 110V air compressor. The 60 second run time of the compressor sounds normal. The only way to determine if your system is air tight is to note the time between the compressor cycling on, off and on again with the coach not in use.

Thank Steve, I think I might be OK, but missing an air dryer.. That doesn't seem to affect anything in a bad way.

the air doors and pottys alone take alot of air. with the 5 of us traveling and the entrance air door and the two bedroom air doors inside being used along with a few potty flushes, it doesnt take very much to drop 20psi, which is what triggers the 110v compressor to come on. there is always someone closing a door or flushing a toilet.

I guess my only concern now is if i should have an air dryer or water seperator even though my tank only accumulates very small amounts of water..i will call Newell in the morning and get an opinion on that. i did get a reply from Spartan Scientific's President by e-mail aand he indicated that it seemed my solenoid was operating normally. Hope your trip is going well.

seems that everyone i look at is different. no surprise. mine seems the most complicated of all the ones i have looked at. the only thing the tank does is give it a place to go where it can evaporate. you could route the hose anywhere. it looks like it would be quite simple to hook up a small dryer. they are relatively cheap. like 20-30 bucks. plus a few fittings. you should decide first if you even need one.

I would like to install one just to be on the safe side, so anytime it's convienent.....
