We are traveling across country and would like to fish in various sates, but we are finding out that it can be expensive to obtain a license for a particular state for only a couple of days.

Any idea on how to hold down costs of multiple fishing licenses for different states?

Many states don't require a fishing license when in a State Park but don't take my word just make a few calls and post your finding.

For senior citizens I know some states give a discount and I've heard some states even give a free lifetime fishing license for those that are 65 and older.
If you are a senior you may be interested in a fishing petition they are trying to pass for a National Senior Fishing License. I have heard that some don't like the idea and I know there are two sides to the coin as some don't want the government getting involved and would like the states to have control over their own fees and regulations and others would like a national senior fishing license.

I have doubts they'd get it through but hey you never know?

I have a lifetime fishing & hunting license I bought a few years ago here in Louisiana. Unfortunately it only gives me privileges in Louisiana. It would be nice if other states would honor it. But if I move from here I can return and use it.

Hi David,

I did some checking and your correct, If I keep my fishing to the state parks I should be fine. If I don't then I must obtain a fishing license.

I have only been checked for a license twice in my entire life. Had to pay a $125.00 once in Colorado. Sometimes I think it would be cheaper to pay the fines. Just a thought, I bought a year long license here in South Dakota.
