Hi all!

My question is about engines. I'm tossed here. I am interested in 2 different coaches in 2 different era's one with the 6v92T and another with the 60 series engine. I have been told the 60 series is quiter, more fuel efficient, and is an overall higher quality engine than the 92 series.

My question is does the 60 series really outperform the 6v92 as much as I've been told?
The wife wants the more classic look and I prefer the smooth side which is why I'm stuck so hopefully we can compromise :)

This is a matter of opinion, and my opinion is that the 6v92 is an old, 2 cycle, out of date engine. The modern 4 cycle Series 60 computer controlled engine is the only one I would consider. I ran twin 6-71s for many years in a boat and they were very reliable. However, it may boil down to a question of price since the 6v92 is in the older Newells.

Ausssies,

I agree with Chester, I would prefer the series 60 engine over a 6V92. A series 60 in a 45' Newell driving 60 mph can get 8 + miles per gallon. A similiar Newell with a 6V92 would get about 5.5 or 6.0 mpg. Also, the computer on the series 60 engine makes driving in the mountains a snap; all you have to do is push the accelerator to the floor and the computer does the rest.

With a 6V92 you have to watch the boost and be careful not to overheat when climbing steep grades.

The series 60 can go 1,000,000 miles between overhauls. I'm not sure about the 6V92.

Both are good engines and if properly maintained will give you many miles of good service.

6V92TA 330-350 HP
6-8 MPG
300-400K engine

60 series 475-500HP
7-10 MPG
750-1million engine

In my opion the 60 series 4 stroke is far superior to 6V92 2 stroke but I do agree that they are both good engines.
