At what point does a Newell need to spec out with a tag axle? Looking around I see some Newell's with them and some without them.

thanks, Nick

Nick I must apologize for someone not responding sooner to this post as I missed it too. Please excuse us as we are playing catch up around here on some things.

Now some things have changed over the years. If we are going back to the early days, the first tags came on coaches with the heavier 8v92 engines and typically

over 39 feet. The general rule of thumb on later coaches is everything has a tag with the 60 series or later engine additions unless it is a custom ordered 35-36 foot in

length model. You will find some older 40 footers without tags and some with. The coaches with tags can carry much more gross weight than those without.

I know there is a 1996 38 foot with series 60 and no tag.
My 1993 39 foot with 8v92 doesn't have a tag. It is probably the longest without a tag at 39' 6"

Folivier, do you know if the 1996 38 foot is for sale and if it is maybe the ballpark price?

thanks,

Nick

That one sold just before we bought ours. I know of a 1990 38' in Mesa, AZ that is in excellent shape that is for sale. PM me if you want the contact info.
Mine won't be for sale until we sell the house and only if we decide to move into a 45'. Anything over 40' could restrict the places you can get into, especially with a tag axle.

Folivier thanks for your reply. A 1990 being 22 years old probably wouldn't pencil out for us unless it is priced around the 30-35k range and very very clean throughout. If we went with something old like this we would probably only use it for about a year to see how a Newell fits our style, then sell for less more than likely and step up.
