I was curious can I flat tow a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor pickup truck behind the Newell? A friend of mine wants to do some trading but if it's not tow-able then I won't be considering it. Anyone here tow one?

JustDustin,

Neutral tow is available for 4x4 models only and is available for all 2012 F-150 models, including Raptor.

Check out the following description of operation straight from the service manual and let me know what you think.

Neutral Flat Tow Activation and Deactivation

Activation

WARNING: Shifting the transfer case to its neutral
position for neutral flat towing may allow the vehicle to be able to roll even
if the transmission is in park (P). Make sure the foot brake is depressed and
the vehicle is in a secure and safe position while the transfer case is being
shifted to its neutral position. Failure to follow this instruction may result
in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Do not disconnect the battery during neutral
flat towing. Doing so will prevent the transfer case from shifting properly and
may allow the vehicle to roll even if the transmission is in park (P). Failure
to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTICE: 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) vehicles
cannot be flat towed with any of the wheels on the ground. Vehicle or
transmission damage will occur.

NOTICE: Failure to put the transfer
case in its NEUTRAL position will damage vehicle components.

NOTE: Four-Wheel Drive (4WD)
vehicles can be flat towed by placing the transfer case in its NEUTRAL position.

NOTE: Neutral flat tow status
can be checked at any time by opening the driver door or turning the ignition to
the ACC or ON position and checking the display in the IPC
.

Turn the ignition to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

Press and hold the brake pedal.

Shift the Mode Select Switch (MSS) to 2H.

Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.

Rotate the MSS from 2H to 4L and back to 2H 5
times within 7 seconds.
If completed successfully, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) displays
"NEUTRAL TOW LEAVE IN N" or "NEUTRAL TOW ENABLED LEAVE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL",
indicating that the vehicle is safe to tow with all wheels on the ground.
If the message is not shown in the display, the entire procedure must be
performed again.
An audible noise may be heard as the transfer case shifts into neutral
position, this is normal operation.

Leave the transmission in NEUTRAL and turn the ignition as far as it will go
toward the OFF position (it will not turn fully off when the transmission is in
NEUTRAL). The key must be left in the ignition while towing. To lock and unlock your vehicle,
use the keyless entry keypad or extra set of keys.

Release the brake pedal.

Deactivation

NOTE: Neutral flat tow status
can be checked at any time by opening the driver door or turning the ignition to
the ACC or ON position and checking the display in the IPC
.

Press and hold the brake pedal.

Turn the ignition to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

Shift the transmission out of NEUTRAL and into any gear.

Release the brake pedal.
If completed successfully, the IPC
displays 4X2, then "NEUTRAL TOW DISABLED".
If the indicator light and message do not display, the entire procedure must
be performed again.
An audible noise may be heard as the transfer case shifts out of NEUTRAL
position, this is normal operation.

Forest I agree, that is a great thing. My question then is the 2012 the first year for this? I had a guy trying to trade me an '09 on my '11 Ram 3500 but I didn't think it would work being towed behind an RV

Ken,

I'll recommend checking with Ford, It is my understanding that 2011 and back cannot be towed 4 down. Here is a PDF from Ford entitled: Four Wheel Down Towing
