View Full Version : Does RV Park Reserving Work?

Much planning was done a month ahead of time and
reservations made at some of the RV parks with site numbers assigned based
on preference and suitability for our rig.

At three of these places, we got there and there was a note on the office
door saying, "I am out of the office for now, pick a spot and I will be by
so you can register later " (or similar wording). So we show up looking to
park in our reserved site, and luckily (?) our site was not taken (yet) so
we parked and it all worked out.

So what is the point of registering ahead of time and all that when
you can get there and somebody is in "your" spot? Will the manager make the
guy move? I doubt it! What would happen? Has this happened to you and how
did it work out? Is this normal???

Gary

That doesn't sound like a good way to run their campground. Several of the ones I've had reservations at use a traffic cone in front of the sites to indicate they site is reserved. I did have a reservation at a state park and when I got there the site they had me assigned wouldn't work and I was given my choice of sites. They were booked full for the weekend, but someone didn't get the site they were expecting. If you are a regular and have a preference I suppose it would be more important to get the site you requested. I know of one campground will give someones reserved site to people that will be staying longer and shuffle the people those with shorter stays.

I guess, the campground can do what they want. If they have a site to offer everyone with a reservation, they can tell themselves they tried. However, if I ask for and reserve a specific site, I do expect it to be available when I arrive. I won't be a happy camper, as far as that campground is concerned, if it is not.

Our favorite park down South places a yellow tape across the entrance of the assigned lots, the office is often unattended, seems to work extremely well! I do get your point however and I would complain if the spot was taken.

We make reservations whenever we travel and have never had a problem. If we arrive after hours we find an orange cone staking out our space. One of our favorite parks even posts on the window of the office which spaces are taken and the names and dates they are reserved for.

The park you mention seems to have a free-for-all method of assigning spaces and could cause a lot of problems. I would write them a nice letter explaining this in hopes they can make it a bit more efficient and stop any altercations and bad feelings before they start.

Never have had a problem with making reservations. Most of the places I go to know who I am because I travel there often.
