The previous owners had a new Dometic refrigerator installed prior to our purchase of the Newell and it has a three-year warranty, IF you have an annual maintenance done at an authorized Dometic service-center. I've called around my area and that is going to cost me about $160.

So basically, the Dometic fridge came with a one-year warranty and I have to pay $160/year to extend that warranty for the second year and then again for the third year. If someone asked me if I wanted to buy an extended warranty on my fridge for $160/year, I would be inclined to say no. If I wouldn't be inclined to pay that when the original warranty wore out, why should I pay it now when the fridge is only a year old? If it has worked fine the first year, it seems a reasonable risk to bet $320 that it will work the second & third years.

As to the annual maintenance, that seems to be a list of things that I could do myself. It just wouldn't qualify as "authorized service" down the road.

Any thoughts from fellow owners?

Jimmy Dean Ross,

It is what ever you feel comfortable with. Some fridges have been known to operate properly for more than ten years while others have problems much earlier.

Based on my own analysis I have decided I won't worry about the warranty and just preform my own yearly maintenance.
