What is a good list of things I should keep in there for on the go maintenance?

Well according to my husband, everything that was in the garage should be in the motorhome(just joking)

Aside from the usual electrical, duct and double sided tapes, I have found one particular 'tape' virtually invaluable, both at home and whilst travelling. It's called 'Wrap it" and can be found at Lowes and probably other similar hardware stores. It's a rubber tape which stretches as you wrap it and then adheres/molds to itself and shrinks, forming a strong, tight, leak-proof seal. It's great for pipe leaks on rubber or metal pipe and can withstand pressure up to 100 p.s.i. I've also used it as a grip wrap on a variety of tools and works much better than other tapes which leave a sticky residue. Cost about $4.00 for a small roll (about 4'0") but it stretches to over twice its own length during application.

My wife accuses me of always taking too many tools along. I figure if I don't need some of them, maybe a neighbor will need my help with the ones I haven't used yet to that point in time.

My theory has always been that you always need what you forgot to bring, so make sure that you bring all the necessary tools for everything you absolutely don't want to happen.

If you don't want to run out of fuel, carry a fuel can with extra fuel.
If you don't want run into a snow, carry chains.
If you don't want an engine belt to break, carry a spare.
If you don't want fuses to blow, carry extra fuses.
If you don't want a light to go out, carry extras. (I'm sure you get the idea by now)

We carry lots of tools and tape and nut and bolts and bulbs. The real trick is the ability to find the thingy you need when you need it. I've also found what works great is when i Velcro an item we search for often. I also keep a set of screwdrivers in my silverware drawer for handy access. At least I can find them quickly.
