I'm a frustrated used coach shopper, looking to purchase a mid to late 80's Newell. So far, all I've been doing is drooling over internet pictures. I've scoured craigslist, ebay, and dozens of dealer sites. The used inventory is slim to none. Most everything I want to look at is out of state.

Can anyone offer any tips / advise on how to shop for a used newell Motor home that is a long, long way from home?

Tough question, You can and can't really shop for Newell's a long way from home. You must see them in person and drive them. Some not all owners will lie. Owners will conveniently forget to mention important facts. Photos will lie. Don't fall in love with a bunch of photos on the Internet. You should drive to the nearest large city with lots of RV dealers and spend a weekend learning about motor homes and there systems before making a purchase on some used coach miles away with out seeing it in person.

One word of advice, always buy a round trip ticket if you decide to look at one...no matter how good it sounds. Another option is to do what Rellick did, hire someone to check out the coach. http://www.luxurycoachlifestyle.com/forum/coach-bus-buyer-seller-exchange/4504-87-newell.html

I tend to agree thst hiring an outside inspector is the way to go this way you dont need to waste your time if its not as advertised

Hi Chris, it is a bit risky buying long distance, usually you can tell from talking to the owner how honest they are, the more questions you ask the better, the 87 I bought I must have got around a hundred pictures from the seller, he was very upfront with the issues with the coach, he even told me about issues with the coach the inspectors missed. I am also expecting to have to do some work to it. Also if it wasn't a good deal I would have found something closer. Hope this helps and good luck with your Newell hunt!!

When it comes to shopping luxury coaches such as a Newell coach, you are lucky if you find one close by. But even if you where to find one near, it doesn't mean it's the coach for you. You have a lot of things to factor in such as will it suit your needs inside and out? price? condition? Shopping long distance will be hard to get around. But there are plenty of good options and many have already shared those so I won't repeat. Good luck!

In a perfect world, there would be an expert Inspector/shopper in all major areas that you could enlist to preview the ones you find. It's a big decision and it deserves a big effort. It's just not convenient at all.
