Anyone know where Detroit diesel engines are actually made? Is there more than one plant?

Somebody with more knowledge will know for sure, but I thought all of the "highway" versions for North America were built in Redford, Mi.

Redford MI they have built a new plant in one of the Carolina's for the 2 strokes. DD also have a plant for the 53 series in Kansas don't know what they do in Kansas but I believe it is for military they do have plants in Mexico & probably other countries as well.

Are 2-strokes still being built new? I thought they went out of production years ago?

My neighbor works at the Redford, Michigan plant in their testing facility. A couple years ago he mentioned testing some new 2 strokes but we haven't talked about it recently. None of the 2 strokes capable of passing current emissions limits and that is why series 60 came along.

I read last year that Detroit diesel produced 55,000 two stroke diesel engines and a good number were purchased by the military. The rest were shipped out of the country to areas where there are no diesel admissions.

While on the subject of 2 strokes, here are some pictures that would make a 16V92 look like a briggs

These engines are probably for the 3rd world where the EPA does not rule. A new 2 stroke would be hard to get by the Air Police in any advanced country.

Locomotives and ships would have no problem.

I remember reading a couple of years ago that a properly tuned 2 cycle diesel could pass the CA pollution tests. I hear they are the strictest pollution tests around so that says something for the old 2 strokes.
