Weatherstripping Replacement

I get a fair amount of wind noise (whistling) at highway speed and am considering replacing the weatherstripping if possible. It may turn out too difficult if it requires removing the window, but has anyone done this job?

Archie, have you pinpointed the actual area of air leaking? Is it a side window or windshield area? You may either have to remove and reseal your windows, which should be done every so many years or you can try and silicone them while in place. I always prefer removing, resealing and replacing. If you are handy it's not all that hard. You really need a second person to help you out. I would be glad to walk you through the process.

Part of the fix is to replace the window felt if you open the window you see that there is a felt strip that seals the front of the window when closed. Remove the old felt and clean the channel, the felt has an adhesive strip on the back i believe and can be bought at Ace Hardware.

You might have to call the factory to find out what flex channel yours takes, my 86 is a single pane window and takes Schlegel part number 1323-1931-9. Great point Jon. I had forgot about the felts on the slider windows. That can actually be a large part of window air leaks on sliders. I have had change out that channel felt on multiple occasions over the years on both auto's and RV's. They dry up and can make it a pain to open your slides. And don't ever try and force a window with bad felts open by using excessive force, you can crack them. I know, I learned the hard way. Great reference link by the way.
