My name is Randy. I ran into Ken at the Sprint Car Races last year. He had to stop by my pit and say hello after seeing I was towing my race car trailer with my '86 Newell. Just wanted to say hello to all Newell lovers. We couldn't be more happy with our classic. It is truly an amazing machine that served us well the last couple years. Towing a 7,000 lb. load it has power to spare. I tell people it's a very dangerous vehicle however. Being a sprint car racer, they can give me some strange looks for sure. I get a kick out of telling folks after they inquire why. I smile and tell them it's just like being rocked in your mothers arms...it'll put you to sleep!!!

Nice to see others that share the same enthusiasm for these wonderful classics.

See you at the races!!

Welcome Randy! Good to have another fellow Newell owner and a racer on top of that. We have a few members on here who are Newell owners and racers too. If you are a friend of Ken's you're a friend of mine! After all I only keep good company. ;) The group here I can say for sure has quite the enthusiasm for all things Newell. The Classic Newell guys are a great bunch too. Glad to have ya!

Randy you have joined a great community of avid luxury coach owners and wannabe Newell owners like myself. We are sprint racing fans too! You guys have a few different tracks down in Missouri. What class and where do you usually race?

ASCS Sprint Cars. I drive the 2A Pure Romance car. We should be ready for Wheatland MO on May 4th. It's a beautiful facility hopefully you've been there.

Randy, so glad you have came on and introduced yourself. There are a lot of luxury coach owners on here who are or have been involved in some type of auto racing. Gordon Hummel has a son who tours around with a sprint racing team. There are some others that are also involved in Sprints besides a few fans like me.

I have a picture of Randy's 2A Pure Romance Sprint Car posted in a thread here on the forum. I'll either link it or post again here.

Has anyone ever heard of doing an exterior makeover on their classic Newell? I'm considering painting my Newell black and removing old windows (slant style) and running a continuous blacked out line of lexan panels down the window line. The same openings would remain under the lexan. Obviousy opening windows would be lost. Just thinking of styling it like a modern executive MCI bus. I would slant the bottom of the front panels downward at the driver/co pilot windows. I talked to my local auto glass shop and they recommended urethane to secure my panels in place like all modern applications. If anyone has attempted, considered or completed such a project, I would love to see pics. Thanks all for the warm welcome !!

I'm trying to grasp what you're wanting to do here. So you want to remove all windows with there frames and overlay the whole upper area with like a dark polycarbonate material? Sounds like you are after a sleek look and feel correct? It's nice to be able to open windows but I guess with air on it wouldn't matter so much. There are several owners that have accomplished quite a bit of modernization with paint. Others have replaced old windows with more modern.

Here are a couple of updated coaches. http://www.luxurycoachlifestyle.com/forum/upgrading-your-motor-coach/2391-another-new-paint-job-2.html

Here you go Randy! How about a nice paint job? This is an '88 with the only thing different from yours being the windows and it has a tag.

Hello Brady, Yes I really want the executive look. We have a need at our races to do some executive entertaining. Just curious of everyone's opinion if I'm pioneering a crazy vision or if someone had done a radical makeover like that. Wish I could afford to just trade mine. If time and $ allows, we'll probably get it painted this summer. The glass conversion should be a pretty quick job. The long continuous glass line would work perfect for some signage for my sponsor.

Wow those are all stunning! I guess I better get in the game with all these folks. A local body shop quoted me $9K for paint...still got to be able to buy pit passes however :) you going to Wheatland Ken?

Randy, I was thinking about going down to Wheatland on the 4th. I know there is some racing down there tomorrow but If I'm going down you know I will have to go when the sprint action is happening. The wife and everyone want to go If I'm going.

Here is a rendering I posted earlier today that might give you some other ideas on styling ques. It wouldn't be all that hard to get that look out of your '86. You could paint it with the existing windows and then if you wanted to later, change the windows out. But now if your wanting to be able to paint up something with the sponsor like whats on the race car, then the poly might do the trick. But a lot of racers just paint over the window with the design or do the wrap. There is a material that can be wrapped over the window which is perforated allowing you to see out of the windows.

That '88 you posted is awesome. Honestly if I could make mine look like that, I would be tickled. The '92 from Indy that's for sale is a cool look too. Out toterhome we built is nice but Mr. Newell has spoiled us! I probably won't fall asleep in the KW Toter while driving home from the races...kinda loud and bumpy :)
