Allison Transmission Dip Stick

I was checking fluids today and noted that my dipstick on the Allison transmission was missing. The top cap was there but the stick itself well, there wasn't one. I figured it must be in the tube so Is there any way to retrieve it without doing any harm?

Hi Jimmy, I would try one of those telescopic magnets, they're about 1/2 in dia on the end. If that doesn't work you may have to pull the tube from the trans. Its not that hard to do, worst is having to get underneath, hope this helps. Good luck!!

Just what Keith said is the only way I could figure out to do it. And he's right that pulling the tube is no big deal. It will all depend on the size of the tube and the size of the magnet. Rule number 1: don't lose the magnet down the tube.

Rule #3
Never use the dipstick to check the tranny fluid...it's never accurate. Use the up & down arrow buttons on the controller.
