From my recent research Chevy and Dodge 4x4 WITH neutral position on transfer case can be towed four down by putting TC in neutral. 2WD trucks with auto tranny can't be towed four down. Don't think Ford 4x4 can be towed four down unless it has the manual TC and can be put in neutral.
Check the owners manual (most can be downloaded from the manufacturers website) for "recreational towing". One model of the Chevy 4x4 truck can't be towed four down and that is the AWD only model.
