My '78 had wedge brakes. When one of the rear actuators pushed it's way off of the backing plate I decided to upgrade to S cam style.I bought all of the "non wearing" parts from a salvadge yard ( backing plates, rocker arms, and brackets etc.). I purchased new actuators, shoes, and drums. The braking capacity was increased by approximately 20%. The front brakes are still "wedge" but I'll convert them as well when they need replacement. I was very satisfied with the performance of the original brakes but decided to upgrade to more commonly available components.
