Brad,
It can do more damage than just make a mess from what I was told way back when. If overfilled it could also make a huge mess and for that reason alone I would remove some.
I found that if I run my V-6 (6V-92) a couple of quarts low I have a much cleaner engine compartment, as a side note most yacht owners do the same thing because these older Detroit Diesels would spit out that much.
Good to hear from you, are you on your way to AZ soon?

I have used that type of Oil Pump that goes down the Dipstick Tube before and they are a real Pain in the A**! They are sold at Boating Stores because you have to pump out the oil on those engines. You have to heat the oil to get it thin enough to go through that small tube and then it is still oily and then you need to figure out what to do with it later since you guys are Full Timers.
