When I pull into a rest area, I usually check my tire temps with my hand. I started noticing that my tag tires where running hotter than my drive. I found the guage to be the problem (10 years old) and replaced it with a 0-50 psi guage. I have found that a setting somewhere between 20 and 30 PSI will keep the tire temps the same.
Using your hand to check the temps will also help find a low tire ( I found as little as 10 psi will make a noticeble temp. change). I still check my tires with a guage on a normal schedule.
