FYI: My Aqua-Hot was overheating the water electrically. A kitchen stove test with my infra-red gun showed the metalic disk in the thermostat that changes shape & breaks electrical contact for on/off control of the heating element was activating at the right temp.
But still the water was overheating. My infra-red gun showed there was an unexplained cool area on the Aqua-Hot that the disk was attached to, under-reporting the actual water temp. Newell & Aqua-Hot had no suggestions for cause or cure.
So I went online & found the disk manufacturer in Southern California, they offered the disk in various on & off temp variations. In 5 degree increments. I chose a 20 degree lower "off" temp, now the Aqua-Hot shuts works fine.
