30-40 hours seems a bit much. I have always towed Jeeps. They have a 4wd transfer case with a neutral position. I remove the tail-light housings and add an additional 1157 bulb to the back side of the housing with wires underneath running up to the front for tail/turn/brake light. The lights are not visible unless I hook the plug up to the Newell. Mounting the base plate and adding the taillight wiring shouldn't take more than 8 hours.
