Prior to 19890, manufacturers were free to devise their own systems for constructing VINs. We turned this specific question over to Marcia, our now retired, long-time customer secretary. She has responded as follows:

"800RE1032D2537N" - I think this is probably 3800RE1032D2537N meaning 38 foot, rear engine, 1032 (the actual serial number that you keep track of), D for diesel, 253 inch wheelbase, built in July 1979 if N is indeed the code number for 1979. I don't have the numbers to go by, but by doing the math on my fingers, I think N does stand for 1979.
