Q
1896 1/15/2006 4:47:49 PM 1/17/2006 Donnell Cameron dadcameron@earthlink.net 1978 Newell Overheat Thanks to Boyd Vanover for his response re: the overheating problem of our coach which we bought in Canada last summer. He did mention that certain models around that era had temp gauges which read slightly high [Editor's note: If the temp gauge reads higher when the headlights are on, add a dedicated ground wire from the temp gauge]. Also, if operating temperatures are excessively high, the engine would stop automatically if the shut down system is operating correctly.
Cummins West in Bakersfield repaired the problem by removing the rear mounted radiator and cleaning the exterior surfaces and reinstalling. Now, temperature never exceeds 190 degrees F whereas before it would exceed 250 going uphill at low speed.
Thanks for the tips.
