Jon, I don't know if this helps but I used to have the same problem on a '78 that had a finned stainless door replaced and had what sounds like the same problem. I don't know if when the previous owner had it changed out after the old one being damaged and the replacement was done a little different or what? I ended up drilling through hard stainless a couple of drain holes. Then I found the lowest point in the engine compartment and drilled drain holes there and never really had the problem again.
