keep down the cost of Tire Rotation?
Hello,
We have been pretty much full time RV'ing for 6 months in our Newell Coach Motor Home and, at 6 months,it was recommended to us that we should have our tires rotated. Now, Michelin has an excellent book that you can get a hard copy or down load a .pdf file called the Recreational Vehicle Tire Guide; How to Get the Most from Your Tires. In this book, on the subject of tire rotation, it says "If correct tire pressure and proper alignment are both continually maintained, tire rotation may never be needed. ...tire rotation may be needed to...even out wear patterns.... Follow your motor home manufacturers' rotation service recommendations.
I know you are suppose to replace tires every 6 or 7 years even if they do not show the signs that suggest replacement. At $300 to rotate 6 tires and $300 for a new tire, you could replace just the front ones (if they showed signs of uneven wear) every two years and be ahead of the game.
Do you know of any tire rotation guidelines to cut down on costs and still be safe?

I have owned 3 motor coaches so far and I have never rotated any tires/wheels except when they are rotating on the road.
I have never read the book. But what they are saying is what I have usually tried to follow. If the tires are checked and kept at a consistent pressure, checked for wear due to misalignment and any misalignment corrected? Then there should be no need to even out the wear or rotate the tires. They will be past their use by date before they wear out. We newell owners very rarely spin our wheels when setting off from a standing start.
Hope your travels are many and your troubles are few. Happy Travels,
Joesph

Dual tires are critical to always be exactly the same circumference, so the only way to be sure is to always keep the same two mated together.

I'm thinking about putting in either posi-track or a limited slip rear end to keep from smoking the right rears when I'm in a hurry

Jon, you must have a lot of diesel pony's in that coach. Have you thought about the idea of willie bars?
