Xantrex 458 Inverter Charger installed

My question is when we are on shore power do we need to have it on to keep the batteries charged? I have a Xantrex 458 series Inverter/charger 2000watt Newell Attack __________________ 1978 39 FT. Newell Classic Jeff & Leann Shackly
