Sewer hose fittings
Hello, today I went to Camping World to buy a replacement sewer hose as mine has a few pin hole leaks in it. Not knowing much about the fittings, I bought a Dominator hose which has red fittings. The hose part is great! When I finally got back,(an hour and a half away) and try to fit the red fitting to the coach dump valve flange, it did not fit, too small. I asked a bunch of sewer fitting type questions while at Camping World and not having the coach with me, I couldn't measure exactly, they assured me that the sizes they carry are the only ones made and they will fit...... NOT!
What company makes these larger type fittings? Is it Camco? I will still use the Dominator hose as I will cut off the ends that don't fit and fit the original fittings from my old hose to the new hose. The hose is the same diameter as the old leaky hose.
My fittings are thick white PVC type material. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jennifer

hi, welcome to the land of the newells. it is a Thetford fitting. harder to find than the regular valterra ones you already bought.
just do a search online and see who is selling them. it changes. they are also used on the older airstream trailers.
camping world used to have them, but seems they have gotten rid of all of them.
i would suggest when you find them to buy an extra or two. the last ones i got i paid 6 or 8 bucks plus shipping for them.

Since I used to have Airstreams, I have more experience with Thetford fittings then the more common Valterra fittings. I personally think the Thetford fittings are somewhat more robust than the Valterra fittings but are more difficult to find. There are Thetford to Valterra conversion fittings but I generally find them some susceptible to leaking so I just use the Thetford fittings.
As Tom said, find a source and buy a few extras. You only need the Thetford fitting on the one end but I have never seen a 'thread-on' Thetford fitting. They all require a hose clamp to attach them firmly, at least until they are well used and become somewhat cemented on to the hose.

the thetford to valterra adapters will not work on mine. it would make the hose stick out farther than the access port on the floor would allow for the hose to go through.
if i ever redo the drain valve, i will go to valterra just for ease of getting parts, but i dont need to do that yet.
i looked and found the part a few places all around 16 bucks. i guess they have gone up since i bought some last.
might try ebay too.
later

Jennifer....had the same problem a few months ago, and here is where I obtained my Thetford fittings (Vintage Trailer Supply):

They are expensive, and they keep getting more expensive. As Tom suggested, stock up at this price, because it is only going up.

Thanks Everyone! I ended up getting one at Vintage trailer as well. Since I was in the area I drove over to E. Montpelier VT and picked it up. According to most, those parts are hard to find and most RV places are completely clueless when it comes to Newell Coaches. We are heading back to Montana on Wednesday and will try and avoid Rt 17 from Montreal to North bay, Ontario as the road is really bumpy and the ride was really unpleasant although beautiful through Canada and the upper Peninsula of Michigan. Thanks again everyone, Jennifer

Jennifer, how timely that you were still in the Vermont area. Glad you found what you needed, and we wish you a pleasant, uneventful trip back to Montana. Nothing like a bumpy road, or a strong crosswind to put one on edge!

Glad you found the fittings. The comment that someone made to you about the RV parts places is true. It would be the same for going in and saying you have a Prevost conversion or Wanderlodge. Our babies are not ones you can go to a parts book and look up what part it needs like a Monaco product or any other.
that said, the parts are mostly all off the shelf parts. the trick is knowing what shelf they came off of. that is where calling newell parts or asking us here who have some experience with finding parts helps.
safe travels.
