Smile Center Section of Windshield

Hello Newell Classis Forum Members... I am looking for some information on the center piece of front windshield glass.

Does anyone have a part number for this center piece? We know that the DW 730 is the passengers side and the DW 731 is for the drivers side and that these windows initially came out of the GMC Astro 95 and the Chevrolet Titan 90 Cab Over Tractor Trailer Trucks from 1968 to 1988.

We just don't know about that center section... Any help from our Newell Friends would be greatly appreciated.

.

If I remember correctly, I was told by more than one wide body owner that Newell created the center piece by cutting up a left, or right windshield to get that piece. I could be wrong......my wife will tell you I am frequentlly wrong. Hopefully others will chime in to confirm, or rebut my memory!

I can't help you with the center windshield part number but I can tell you that Newell has no resources for the windshield gasket(rubber)for the wide body coaches with the split windshields. I spoke with them last week on this very issue. They have been trying to find a company who could make them and to no avail. So, don't destroy your gasket when replacing your windshield because there are none to be had. It's a bit frightening. Apparently, White/Volvo used to make them as they were the same gaskets for some model of their trucks but they no longer have them either. Newell is working on this issue. I have no idea how long the have been working on it but lets hope they persevere. Every time I work on this coach I am reminded why I am the 3rd owner of this beauty. It's a good thing I have perseverance and a fat wallet!

Express1 used to be in the windshield business. Maybe he could dig up a source for these. How about it Matt?

Default Windshield P/N same for the 74'???

Interesting that a piece was added in the center.. Is it Flat? If so couldn't a local glass shop cut a piece?

Since they did that.. The question is: Are the P/N's the same for my not-as-wide Ole' 74?? I have a cracked right windshield.. I've been quoted $1100 + ..Super Glue is looking real good.... Looking for options..

I have also been told that the center section was made by cutting up the left and right sections of windshields. I believe that the narrow bodies should use the same windshield sections as the right and left sections of the wide bodies, you just don't have the extra center section.

try these places

www.safelite.com Make, Model and Year
GMC ALUMINUM TILT CAB
1988 CABOVER

http://www.dakotalandautoglass.com/

use the part numbers in the earlier post

they will be pretty inexpensive compared to a local place.

but it will be for the windshield.

I've replaced both windshields on my '78 96" wide. I found Newell to be the best source for the glass and the rubber seal. I had them ship direct to the glass installer. Of course if they broke during the installation procedure they were my responsibility. We had to trim the aluminum around the opening to get them to fit properly.
The guys who installed the windshields on my '93 were careful to let the coach set for 24 hours after installation to let the adhesive/sealers set up.
Concerning the center section. I'd have a glass company make one and order a few extra feet of the rubber surround from Newell and cut it to fit. Put it in the fridge before you cut it slightly longer than needed so it will not shrink back during cold outside temps.

I appreciate the info on the center section.

If anyone happens to knows something else on that center section, I would appreciate the update.

All of these years are the same

GMC (Not GMC Truck) Shows a date range of 1988-1969
Chevrolet Shows a date range of 1981-1970

Then the next search criteria is ALUMINUM TILT CAB

I replaced the center section on my 88 and got it from Newell. They do have to cut the end of either the left or right section. I don't remember the cost. They packed it well and I got it in three days. I had a local glass man install both sides which he got and the center from Newell and was an easy installation.

Default Size Matters

I had "Safelite" measure the W730 windshield for me they stated that it was 32"x 50". I called Newell they said the one for my 74' coach was
46 5/16" X 28 5/8" and they had 11 in stock. I was told that it fit both sides. $395 + crating. Mine has the square inside corners.. the same as the later coaches with the center piece... Not sure about the GMC option ..I'd hate for it not to fit! I see a trip coming up... Now That will be a test Hop!
