Default 1993 Newell Needs work but price is cheap

I ran into an offer on a newer newell than what I already own that has me thinking about unloading my classic newell since I have done a lot of work to it and hoping to get into something that does not require as much. The one I'm looking at is a 1993 newell that was factory upgraded in 01 odometer reads 86,000 miles. It will need some work. The generator, Fridge/Freezer and inverter have been removed. The tires are 12 years old! But the Detroit Diesel and transmission are obviously barely used. It has really only been started and moved once a month for the past five years. Since the husband passed away his widow is asking only $38,000, which seems to be a score and I'm thinking that I should take it. What do the experts think? How much money might I have to stick into it. Right now I know I would have to install atleast a generator, Fridge, Freezer, In Motion Satellite & Inverter.

Sounds good but the standard cautions apply--have it checked out by someone that knows what he/she is looking at!

If the engine is strong, transmission good, and it's not rusting away, all the other things you mention are superficial.

Since the original owner is the seller, you should have a gold mine in documentation available to you. Get it all!!

I would ball park what you mentioned at 35K. Still not a bad price since it is new stuff & motor, tranny & chasis should easily a million miles with proper service. Not to mention that the quality of materials & workmanship in Newells that age are still light years ahead of brand new coaches in the 400K range. My opinion at least. Check out thickness of doors etc. on newer coaches. It will make a Newell fan out of you.

Clint, not to mention brand X is more than likely built with side panels made with fiberglass bonded to wood using formaldehyde glues with the majority of the doo dads coming out of China or Taiwan vs. aluminum siding bonded using space age adhesives on the Newells. I think your right on at the $35K mark unless theres more missing than what 2stroke is mentioning. Great mechanicals is a huge plus.
