Default Air Horn Stopped Working

Our air horn stopped working what could be the issues? I figured it has to something relatively simple and figured atleast another member has experienced this same issue and can steer me in the right direction for a quick fix.

Thanks,

Jon

My coach has a switch on the dash to switch between the air and city horns, so I'm going to assume your setup is similar and the city horns are working. Check the 12v solenoid located in the compartments above the dash to make sure that air is getting to your horns. If air is getting to your horns and they're still not working, you will have to remove the back cover plate on your horn and check to see what the problem is. Once you have the diaphragm removed you can check to see if wasps built a nest in the trumpet. Mine were not working when I bought the coach but taking them apart and cleaning the diaphragms and removing obstructions in the trumpets fixed them right up. If you need parts Google 'Hadley air horn parts' and you will find numerous vendors that sell them.

Locate the air valve to the horns. It should have a wire from horn button to the valve. When the horn button is pushed, the air valve should open. You should hear a "click". You will need to troubleshoot if the valve is or is not receiving the signal from the horn button.

yep the "air valve" is a 12 Volts DC Solenoid Valve. Mine was sticky when we 1st got the coach but now it works fine cause I use it. Wifey not happy about that.

Percussive maintenance can un-stick a solenoid. Start by tapping the solenoid with the plastic grip on a screwdriver. If that doesn't work try a small hammer.

not dumb, they just get sluggish from non-use. Try a light tapping before you take it apart for cleaning as suggested by MrE. Ours was just intermittent so with a little use it now works fine, but then I use it for numerous reasons..................ha
