Pics would help. You have independant front suspension, right? The front suspension was made by Dana, Rockwell, ZF.....?

the bottom steering bar that runs thru the frame is big , probable 2,3/8 diameter. i need the the end piece that threads onto the steering bar on both sides . they are wore out . my mechanic is nervous to take it apart , cuz if it gets damaged and we cant get a replacement . then im realy screwed . the response we got from newell was , we dont stock it and dont know a part # on it . we stopped using them along time ago . we then asked for a build sheet on my bus , and they said they dont keep them for more than 7 years

If nothing else you might try a machine shop, they could probably make you one.
good luck.

when i was talking to newell about the airbags, they told me they bought the entire suspension as a package and didnt keep individual part numbers.
maybe you find out the maker of the suspension package from newell, they should know that, and contact the mfgr and show them a picture. seems to make sense it might work, but who knows.

paul, you mentioned you put HID headlights in. i would be very interested in how you did that.

the whole front suspension was made by dana . they are not in buisness any longer . from what i have been told a company in spain bought up all stock in parts and axels and moved it to spain . apparently its a big problem in the trucking and pasenger bus market . there is tons of trucks and buses on the road using dana parts . and no way to get the now

Default Question?

You mentioned Heim, to me that means a bearing which Dyna would not have made. in aviation we use all sorts of heim bearings or rod ends, some much larger. Did you happen to check with a bearing company? Often time the bearing p/n is on the visiable edge of the bearing.. you may need to clean it up and use a mirror or camera to see it.... just a thought..

It would be helpful if you could include the year and number of your coach in your signature line!!
The serial number and spec number of your axle assembly are on a tag on the rear side of the I beam on the driver side. Serial number will start with HU........ followed by 8 numbers. Get that info and call 800-826-4357. They can help you.
Good Luck....let us know how it goes!

ps Use extreme caution crawling under your motorhome. Block it up first...The P/O of my 1978 Newell was killed under a friends Motorhome.

Paul,

I couldn't really tell from the picture, but I think that you are describing a typical tie rod end, only in a much larger size. I found tons of heim joints on line last night. If you can measure the OD of the threaded section that fits into the tie rod, and the ID of the hole in the joint, I think it will be relatively easy to find replacements.

For example McMaster Carr lists them up to 1 1/4 for the threaded section and 1 inch hole for the through bolt http://www.mcmaster.com/#ball-joint-rod-ends/=5hihzo

I know you mentioned a dimension of over 2 inches, but I wasn't sure if that was the tie rod diameter or the diameter of the heim joint.

I hope this helps. If it is not the common heim joint but something more complicated in design, please let us know.

I believe Ridewell is now supporting the Dana IFS. The following link might be helpful
http://www.ridewellcorp.com/Web/Site...v-ifs284-steer

Also, there should be a # stamped into the steering cross shaft that should help. It will be toward the ends near the tie rod ends.

Paul,

Have you been able to resolve the Heim joint issue?

nope , we have been in contact with the company in spain that now owns this style of dana suspension , but they are very slow to respond . fyi dana had 5 different models of the independent front suspention . and they have all been split up to different companies.

Dose anyone know the Firestone part number for the tag axle air springs on a 45' 1996? I'm pretty sure the drive and steer baqs are the same; Firestone W01-358-9447Goodyear: 1R11-066, Ridewell: 1003589447C. I am going to replace all 10 air bags and would also appreciate where is the best place to purchase. I also want to replace all the Height Control Valves and also need part numbers for these 3 valves. Thanks for your help.
