batteries before and after
my project has started. i finally got some the parts i have ordered. yesterday i picked up the lifeline agm batteries for the coach at the fedex terminal in phoenix. (saved over a hundred bucks that way).
the previous owner had put 6 mismatched 4d flooded batteries in and the rack was rusty and two of the batteries had been boiling.
i took them out, spent several hours with baking soda betting all the acid out and then scrubbed the compartment clean. sanded and painted the rack. cleaned all the cables and battery post adapters.
then a neighbor had bad timing and brought back some tables he had borrowed and i had him help me get the new batteries in the rack.
they are for sure heavy. my neighbor probably weighed less than one of the batteries...but i made up for that.
i put one new powerpulse unit on each rack and rerouted the battery cables to work better than they had. mounted the battery temp sensor and the powerpulses.
now i actually have working batteries and the xantrex echocharger is now charging the engine batteries. (the coach batteries were not getting high enough to do it before).
first task done. my new headhunter mach 5 pump arrived today and i started replumbing work. the old headhunter was the jetpaq and the plumbing was in different spots.
the headhunter pump i found new from a rv surplus dealer for 375 shipped so i got a good deal. (man they are pricey).
one thing down, a zillion to go.

Tom (truk4u) is
Tom Chilcote at
Trans-Specialists
Waleska, GA 30183
Cell - 770-634-7530
Fax - 770-720-0861
and he is a small businessman who sells batteries to the coach crowd. i was referred to him by Tuga and Richard and he was a pleasure to deal with. to save money i picked them up at the fedex terminal in phoenix (about 45min away from my house).
if you decide to pick them up yourself, make sure your vehicle can handle a little over a 1000 pounds of cargo.
happy thanksgiving.

Welcome to the Newell site Tom, glad to have you on board. These are a great group of guys and gals just like the POG group. They are all willing to help each other.
Tom McCloud's wife, Darlene helped me remove, fix, and re-assemble a set of Hunter Douglas day/night curtains in my coach when we were at a Newell rally in Austin a few years back. She and I worked on those curtains for about 4 hours. Finally, we got it - I was never so thankful to anyone as I was to Darlene that day.
If any of you guys need new batteries, please give Tom (truk4u) a shot at pricing them, I think you will be happy with the results.

Thanks Tom & Tuga, this is a great site and I have been reading lots of posts. There are many similarities between the Newell and Prevost when looking for parts and components. Every time I have visited Tuga's Newell, I've been impressed with the Coach.
I'll be visiting the site daily and look forwarding to contributing on the various topics. Who know's, I might still convert Tuga, but so far no joy!

"make sure your vehicle can handle a little over a 1000 pounds of cargo"
Reminds me of a little trip quite a few years ago. I was building a wooden fence at our first house and needed a few bags of quik-rete. Hopped in the VW Rabbit, drove 10 miles to Lowe's and loaded up 10 80 lb. bags! Thought the Rabbit was driving kinda squirrelly on the way home. Don't think the front tires touched except on curves!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope your turkey is moist and family and friends are plentiful!

thanks larry. i try to find alternative sources for things. i just bought the exact replacement thomas 12v compressor and got a new one and a air manifold and valves all for 205 bucks shipped. not from a dealer so some risk but that compressor is very pricey too. i am willing to take the risk to save that kind of money. my warranty is me...

Agree and do what I can myself, but always try to buy the best part available. Hope it pays off in the long run, although I did buy a Newell and that should say something for longevity.
