Default shore cord length

The Shore Power Cord on the '82 38' is in poor condition and needs replacement. When I went looking I was quoted on one that was 15' Long for the 50 Amp Service.
The existing Shore Power Cord is much longer than that so I wanted to check in to find out what length is recommended. If this was a boat I would know the answer but since I am not familiar with this application it makes sense to ask the question before spending time and money.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

At least 25'. You can also get an extension 50amp cord which should be about 25'.. My main cord is 25', and the extension is 25', so I've got 50' range. 25' works 99% of the time for me.

I concur with Clarke. You want at least 25'. I carry a 50 amp 25' extension but have only had to use it a couple of times. Camping world sells both a 25' and a 30' 50 amp extension cord. Both are 3 wire 6 gauge and 1 wire 8 gauge.

If I were replacing my power cord I would go with at least a 40' (but then I have a longer coach). Glendinning sells a 36' and a 40' cord they use with their power reels (50 amp plug on one end, blunt cut on the other) which is more flexible than the cords most people sell.

You got my curiosity up so I just measured my power cord. It is approximately 45' from the plug to the point where the wires terminate inside the transfer switch.

so, i couldn't let michaels curiosity be more than mine so i just measured mine as well.

i have a yacht type cord tub with a switch that reels the cord in and out.

mine is 40 foot from the edge of the coach to the tip of the cord. probably another 5 feet goes in the tub, out to the power management system, so i think my cord is about 45 feet in total length as well.

i did notice that the last ten feet or so looked like it has never seen the light out of the tub. it looked brand new.

later

Thanks Guys,
Looks like I should get it as long as possible. I will find out how much fits on the reel and then go from there. I will shoot for 25' to 40' and get an extension if needed.
I am off to the Coach tomorrow. You guys and this forum have helped me allot.
Thanks again,
Steve

i know the rest of the guys have a zillion foot of 50amp extension cords, but for me i have never needed it. so, dont spend any money on it until you think you really need it. it is just another thing to carry around.
