Bay Door Lock Actuators
Needed to replace one of the Bay door lock actuators. Called Newell, Wow $325 each. The actuators had a Ford part number on them, so called the local Ford Dealer, yes, we have them in the warehouse, it will be $350 each.
Then started searching the internet with no success, finally found the following site which makes aftermarket replacements for auto restorers, sure enough $27 for one that looks right, or 2 for $40, so I just ordered a pair, and will have a spare.

I will report back when I get them installed and hopefully everything will work fine.

Ray,
I had found some a year or so back on eBay; they were about $27 or so.
Thanks for posting the link; it is a big help to others who are looking.

I bought 6 last year and they were 2 for $34. They are from a Mercury Topaz. www.am-autoparts.com.

i put two new ones on yesterday and they are the 2 for 34 dollar ones and they look identical to the ford oem ones. one of the mounting brackets that it was attached to was missing so i made one out of 1/8" aluminum plate and used two sided tape to attach it to a piece of 1/4" lexan i cut to space it out and double sided tape them in and they work great.

I also installed the actuators I recieved from 1-A Auto, the first one would not work at all, so having ordered a spare I installed the second one. It is working intermitently, and will usually unlock the bay door, but only locks it about half the time. This is unacceptable, as I will always have to check it, and usually forget. If it were on the unlocking action I could live with it a little while, as I could get out my keys, if need be.
All that said, Tom, I will be ordering a couple of the $34 ones you are using and see if I can recoup my losses with the other two.
BUYER BEWARE of the Lock Actuators in the first post of this thread, 2 out of 2 that I ordered do not work.
If there is a way to edit the above post, I would like to remove the Link to the website.
Tom, thanks for the information. I LOVE this forum, lots of great information.

Ray,
Not disputing the quality of the actuators, but I do know that the door locking setup is VERY finicky. If you take the actuator loose from the lock does it work? If so, you might want to play around with the oblong catch that the actuator fits into. It helps if you have someone press the lock unlock switch while you watch.
And I learned the hard way that if you have the lock locked by key, and you set the actuator in the unlocked position that you will tear your hair out in frustration.
